Dr Stephen Child is a Canadian-trained General Physician with a respiratory medicine interest who immigrated to New Zealand in late 1991. He worked in Dargaville for 2½ years before moving to his current role as General Physician at Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) in 1994. Clinically, he has an interest in asthma and general internal medicine with a strong passion for medical education.
Dr Child has given numerous talks on topics of general medicine, asthma and medical education. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles on medical workforce and medical education.
He was a member of the DHB National Workforce Strategy Group from 2001 – 2009 and the Minister of Health’s Medical Training Board from 2007 – 2009. He was a board member of the Northern Clinical Training Network from 2001 – 2006, a Clinical Advisor to Health Workforce New Zealand (2011-2012) and Chair of NZMA (2015-2017).
Dr Child is currently on the Medical Council of NZ and CMO of Southern Cross Health Society.
He continues weekly private clinics specialising in medicine / respiratory diseases but is restricting clinics to follow-up cases only.
