Dr Gillian Balbir Singh is a nephrologist or renal physician.
She graduated from the University of Auckland in 2004 and completed nephrology training in Auckland obtaining her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2011. She also obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) with 1st Class Honours from the University of Auckland in 2012. She worked as a consultant nephrologist at North Shore Hospital, Waitemata District Health from 2012-2014 before pursuing an international research fellowship in South Korea in 2014. She followed this on with further overseas specialist work as a nephrologist and university lecturer in Cape Town, South Africa from 2015-2016.
Gillian has returned to Waitemata District Health Board as a consultant physician and has her own medical team. She has published in international journals and has strong interests in:
- the management of acute and chronic kidney disease
- glomerulonephritis
- diabetic nephropathy
- renal dialysis
- metabolic diseases and
- geriatric nephrology.
She emphasises and strongly promotes healthy lifestyle choices for disease prevention and management of chronic disease.
Her strengths are that she is easily approachable and takes time in explaining risk factors and educating patients about their diagnosis and management plan.
