Associate Professor Geoff Braatvedt is an Endocrinologist previously working at Green Lane and Auckland City Hospitals until 2023 and in private practice at the Mercy Specialist Centre since 1995. He was also a director and reporting Doctor for Auckland Bone Densitometry. He did his undergraduate training in Cape Town (MbChB 1981 with Honours), and after 5 years of post-graduate training in South Africa, moved to the UK in 1986 for specialist training ( MRCP 1987 and MD 1991). He moved to Auckland in 1992 and was appointed to a specialist post in 1992 (FRACP 1992). He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. He had an active teaching role at the medical school until 2020 and has research interests in many aspects of Endocrinology with 75 publications in peer reviewed journals.
Geoff’s special clinical interests and expertise include the management of adults with: • Thyroid disease o thyroid cancer management including radioiodine o thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound guided needle biopsy of thyroid nodules o thyrotoxicosis and hypothyroidism • Osteoporosis • Adrenal disorders including Addison’s disease • Pituitary disease including acromegaly, Cushing syndrome
